Persuasive Writing

Research a current and major issue in the news during this week.  Some examples could be the ‘Monash University Train Line Plans’, ‘The Nurses Pay Dispute’ or ‘Fast Food in Schools’.
Your task is then to complete the following in your homework book:
-          In 2 columns, list Facts and Opinions from both sides of the argument
(half a page)
-          Then to write a short Letter to the Editor in response to the issue, expressing your own opinions
(1 page letter)

Science

For science this week, you need to identify 2 examples of chemical reactions at home.  For example, the lighting of a sparkler – the signs of this reaction are light, a crackling sound, and an odour (smell) which produces a gas, to name a few.   Copy the table into your homework book and fill it out

Explanation of the example
What are the signs or signals of the chemical reaction(s)?
What is the new product created from the reaction(s)?
Lighting a sparkler with a match.  Sparkler was sparkling everywhere.

Odour, light, heat

Carbon on the leftover stick, gases from the smell, heat
